IRV SMITH OBITUARY

Smith, Irv "Smitty" Died at 80 after a yearlong battle with cancer. He lived a remarkable life. He was the loving husband of Fran Smith for 48 years, proud dad and grandpa of Carver Smith (Brenda, Kiley, Sydney), Kelly Smith (Colleen, McKaela, McIntyre), and Kim Amann (Nick, Nicky, Nellie). He is survived by siblings Tim Smith (Sue), Barb Lanz (Rick), and other relatives. Irv grew up in Philadelphia and different parts of Wisconsin: Superior, Bayfield, Hayward, and South Milwaukee, where he graduated from high school. He attended UW-Madison, obtained a Master's Degree in Education, and was on the UW Varsity Crew Team.

His diverse jobs shaped him into the incredible man he became; garbage man, mailman, truancy officer, police officer, teacher, vice principal, and ultimately, 25 years as the principal of Oak Creek High School.

For many years, he served on the Greendale Police and Fire Commission and was also named Oak Creek Citizen of the Year in 1994. His stories, laughter, and caring personality will be painfully missed. Visitation is May 21 from 3-6 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 6 PM, American Serb Hall (5101 W. Oklahoma Ave., Mke). In place of flowers, please consider donating to JDRF, Southeastern WI chapter. One of his wishes was to help find a cure for Type 1 diabetes that affects two of his grandchildren.
